Department of “Natural and general professional sciences” of Urgench branch of Tashkent University of Information Technologies (UbTUIT) named after Muhammad al-Khwarizmi was founded in 2005. In 2008 two new departments “Natural and general professional sciences” and “Department of Informatics and Mathematics” were organized in the basis of the Department of “Natural and general professional sciences”. PhD. Sadullaeva Sh.A has run the department. (2005-2008); PhD. Ismоilоv Sh.X. (2008-2010, 2016-2017); PhD. Saidov D.Sh. (2010-2015). Since August 29, 2017 yil PhD Mamedov Q.A. has been in charge of the department.
In 2008, there were founded two departments in the basis of the department: “Natural and general professional sciences” and “Informatics and mathematics”. On December 31, 2013 by the decree #382 of the director of UbTUIT, PhD, A.X. Nishanov the department of “Natural and general professional sciences” was established in the basis of the department “Telecommunication engineering”.
Nizomjon Jumaniyazov who did his PhD in the university of Santiago de Compostela, Spain which is ranked among top 1000 in the world joined the department in 2018. Moreover, professor, doctor of sciences, Yakhshimuratov Alisher started his career in the department from August 23, 2019.
In the academic year 2019-2020 10 professors are accomplishing their research and teaching activities. 8 of them are in full time positions, while 2 are in part time positions. Scientific potential of the department by full time positions is 50%, average age is 39. Overall scientific potential of the department is 60% and average age ratio is 42.
At present, the teachers of the department are engaged in the creation of new pedagogical technologies, including the creation of virtual laboratory work in a special multimedia class connected to the Internet, in order to provide in-depth knowledge of the subjects of the curriculum. In addition, a number of textbooks and instructive manuals for students have been composed by the department.
The department organized circles for gifted students, the circle "Young physicists" is led by associate professors D. Saidov and K. Boboyanov, the circle "Young mathematicians" - assistant of the department F. Masharipova.

Within the framework of the state scientific and technical program at the department for 4 years for 2017-2020 on the topic "Investigation of the formation of secondary defects in silicon and silicon-germanium hard alloys" fundamental number BF-4-016 (head of the grant f.-mfn Saidov D. Sh.) Research work completed.
Professors of the Department of Physics and Mathematics Writing and submitting a grant project on the topic "Inverse spectral problems for the Dirac operator in a graph" under the supervision of A. Yakhshimuratov is included in the research plan of the department, and a number of activities are currently underway.
Associate Professor N. Jumaniyazov Winner of a 4-month fellowship program at US universities, funded by the US Department of State and the US Embassy in Uzbekistan, conducted by the American Council for International Education in Uzbekistan. Lib, continuing education from January 11 to May 20, 2020 at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington.
In 2021, associate professor of the department Jumaniyazov Nizomjon actively participated in internships and study programs abroad through the El-Yurt Umidi Foundation and received the right to internships abroad.
In order to further accelerate the work to increase the scientific potential of the teachers of the department this year, associate professor of the department Bobodzhonov K.A. is preparing to defend his doctoral dissertation on the topic: "Research of the formation of nickel germanosilicides based on solid solutions si1-xgex." The teacher of the department Khusainov entered the basic doctoral studies in Islamic Urdu. Senior lecturer of the department Sh.Urazmetov, specializing in pedagogy, prof. Abdullaeva B.S. He is working on independent research and is preparing to defend his dissertation on the topic "Improving the teaching of discrete mathematics in higher education (on the example of the technical direction)."

At the department in the 2020-2021 academic year, a scientific and methodological seminar "Topical issues of modeling natural processes and mathematics" is held.
